PRINCETON, MN – A head-on collision in rural Minnesota resulted in the death of one driver and left several others injured, including two teenagers and a young boy. The accident occurred around midday Saturday on Hwy. 95, near Princeton.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the accident involved two vehicles. An eastbound car veered across the center line and collided with a westbound SUV. Authorities arrived at the scene shortly before noon.
Driver Killed, Passengers Injured
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, 36-year-old Ulysses Stephen Chase of Harris, MN, was declared dead at the scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.
Two boys, ages 11 and 14, were passengers in Chase’s vehicle, along with 41-year-old Theresa June Miller, all from Schafer, MN. Although their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, they were transported to nearby hospitals. The boys were sent to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, while Miller was also treated in St. Cloud.
SUV Driver in Critical Condition
Geralyn Marie Weitzel, 63, from Menominee, Wisconsin, was driving the SUV. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a hospital in St. Paul. Her two passengers, 38-year-old Leanne Martha Payne and a 14-year-old girl, both also from Menominee, were injured but are expected to recover after receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Investigators are continuing to gather details to determine the exact cause of the crash.
