GARY, IN — A father’s deadly actions have shattered an Indiana family after he was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend while their children were just one room away. Samuel Carlos Edwards, 38, faces life behind bars after a jury needed less than two hours to convict him of murder on March 12. The case centered around the December 2022 killing of 31-year-old Ieisha Jefferson, with whom Edwards shared five young children.

CHILD’S HEARTBREAKING TESTIMONY

In gut-wrenching court testimony, one of the couple’s daughters – just 5 years old at the time – held tightly to a stuffed unicorn as she described hearing what she later understood was a gunshot from the next room.

The young girl initially thought her mother was merely sleeping.

CALCULATED FINAL MOMENTS

Prosecutors painted a methodical picture of Edwards’ actions that night.

He first gathered all five children, aged 1 to 6, into a bedroom. He handed one child Jefferson’s phone to play with, then closed the door.

What happened next would leave the children motherless.

HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

Court documents revealed a troubled relationship spanning six years, marked by multiple police visits to their home.

Jefferson had previously voiced fears about her safety, allegedly telling others that if anything happened to her, her “baby daddy” would be responsible.

MANHUNT ENDS

After the shooting, Edwards vanished. Authorities finally caught up with him in Houston, Texas, in April 2024, more than a year after Jefferson’s death.

DIGITAL TRAIL

Phone records proved crucial to the prosecution’s case.

A 911 call reporting shots fired was traced to Edwards’ phone, with relatives later identifying his voice on the recording.

Cell tower data also placed him at the scene during the estimated time of the shooting.

JUSTICE SERVED

The jury found Edwards guilty on all counts, including murder, five counts of neglect of a dependent, and misdemeanor domestic battery. His sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
