Anna’s hard work paid off when the first official Mother’s Day service was held on May 10, 1908, at a church in Grafton, West Virginia, where her own mother had taught. The idea caught on like wildfire, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill making the second Sunday in May a legal holiday called “Mother’s Day.” It was dedicated “to the best mother in the world, your mother.” Cue the happy tears!
