HOUSTON, TX – A Sunday night tour over Houston turned tragic when a private helicopter slammed into a radio tower, killing all four passengers on board—including a child. The crash, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m., sent shockwaves through Houston’s Second Ward as flames erupted from the wreckage.

The aircraft went down near Engelke Street and N. Ennis Street, police confirmed in a late-night press conference. The deadly collision sparked a fire that spread across several blocks, although no structures beyond the radio tower sustained damage. Authorities confirmed no injuries on the ground.

Private Tour Ends in Disaster

The ill-fated flight had departed from Ellington Field, a site known for private and touring flights. Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo confirmed the aircraft was a “private touring helicopter” in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“This is a tragic event tonight, it’s a tragic loss of life,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said during the press briefing, as city officials vowed full cooperation with federal investigators.

Investigation Underway

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities have not yet provided further details on what may have led the helicopter to collide with the tower.
