How To Love People That Are Hard To Love

Voices of Faith Daily Podcast by Jack and Kitty Norton in Winona, Minnesota.

Loving difficult people can feel impossible, but with God’s help, you can show His love to everyone, even when it’s hard.

Learning to Love with God’s Help

Some people are easy to love, but others can test our patience. You might have someone in your life who seems determined to push your buttons. But remember, God has called us to love everyone, even when it’s challenging.

The Bible says in Matthew 5:44, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” When you choose to love, even when it’s hard, you are following the example of Jesus. His love for us was unconditional, and He calls us to show that same love to others.

Love Is a Choice, Not a Feeling

Loving those who are difficult is more than just an emotion; it’s a decision. You decide to be kind, to be patient, and to see them through the eyes of Jesus. This doesn’t mean you have to be best friends or even agree with them, but it does mean you treat them with respect and dignity.

When you make the choice to love, despite how you feel, God will give you the strength and grace you need to carry it out.

Three Affirmations to Consider:

  • “I am filled with God’s love, and I can show love to everyone.”
  • “I choose to respond with kindness, even when it’s difficult.”
  • “God’s grace empowers me to love like Jesus.”

Trusting God to Change Hearts

You don’t have to do this alone. When you’re struggling to love someone who is difficult, lean on God. Trust that He’s working in their heart just as He’s working in yours.

Sometimes, the greatest breakthroughs happen when we show love to someone who doesn’t deserve it. Your love could be the catalyst for change, both in their life and in yours.

A Prayer for Loving Others

Lord, help me to love those who are hard to love. Give me Your eyes to see them as You do. Fill my heart with compassion, patience, and grace. When I feel weak, remind me that Your love is made perfect in my weakness. Let Your love flow through me, even to those who are difficult. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for making a differenced. Give a gift of hope.
