LONG BEACH, CA – When a human skull was found on a California beach this week, police were prepared to begin investigating a homicide, but the bone turned out to be a realistic prop, according to medical examiners.
The Long Beach Police Department responded to the beach in the area of East Ocean Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue after lifeguards reported finding what appeared to be a broken human skull at around 7:15 a.m. Monday.
A portion of the beach was closed to visitors while police began their investigation and initiated a search for other remains. But once medical examiners arrived at the scene, they discovered the skull was fake.
Medical examiners told KTLA that the skull appeared to be a realistic prop.
