SALT LAKE CITY, UT – A deadly game ended in tragedy when a young man from Salt Lake City, Utah claimed he could dodge a bullet but was fatally shot by his friend during what started as a reckless stunt. Now, the accused shooter is facing serious criminal charges.

Police say the bizarre incident unfolded on February 2, when 23-year-old Ashton Jonathon Mann and his friend, Dylan Treichel, also 23, spent the evening smoking marijuana and playing video games.

As the night progressed, their conversation took a dangerous turn toward guns. The pair eventually moved to a detached garage containing two handguns, where a deadly game of chance began.

Treichel, apparently confident in his agility, reportedly challenged Mann by saying he could “dodge a bullet.”

According to investigators, the two believed the guns were unloaded after Mann claimed to have checked them. But the fun and games quickly turned tragic when Mann aimed the gun at Treichel and fired, intending for his friend to leap out of the way.

Reckless Experiment Ends in Tragedy

Mann told police they performed the stunt six times without any issues, assuming the weapons were empty. But on the seventh attempt, a bullet fired directly into Treichel’s chest, leaving him gravely wounded. In a shocking twist, Treichel allegedly realized he had been hit and begged his friend to call for help.

Mann immediately dialed 911 and tried to assist Treichel as paramedics raced to the scene. But by the time authorities arrived, Treichel was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Discovery of Drugs and Ammunition

When police searched the property, they found more than just the weapon used in the incident. Drug paraphernalia linked to marijuana use, ammunition, and magazines for the handguns were discovered in the garage.

This evidence added another layer of trouble for Mann as investigators pieced together the sequence of events.

Arrest and Charges

Authorities arrested Mann in the early morning hours following the shooting. He now faces charges of manslaughter and felony possession of dangerous weapons by a restricted person.

He remains in custody at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail without bond as he awaits further legal proceedings.
