SHERBURNE COUNTY, MN – A violent home invasion in rural Sherburne County, Minnesota has led to criminal charges against four suspects, including a former employee of the victim. The December 18 incident, which saw more than $100,000 in cash stolen, left the community in shock. Three of the suspects have been arrested, but one remains at large, reportedly having fled to Mexico. The investigation continues as police recover some of the stolen money.
The Incident: A Violent Home Invasion in Baldwin
The home invasion took place at a residence on 305th Avenue Northwest near the City of Baldwin. A woman was home and asleep when two men entered the property through an unlocked rear garage door. One of the intruders was armed, and together they stole a safe containing over $100,000 in cash.
Security footage from the home showed the burglars wearing masks and gloves, and the male homeowner later identified one of them as 22-year-old Brandon Marlon Garcia-Becerril, a former employee who had recently requested financial help due to legal troubles. Law enforcement quickly identified Garcia-Becerril as a key suspect, which helped propel the investigation forward.
Key Arrests and Evidence in the Case
Garcia-Becerril, along with 31-year-old Yonathan Jose Gamboa Zambrano from Minneapolis, has been charged with first-degree burglary in connection with the break-in. A third suspect, 21-year-old Jennifer Barrera Henriquez, was also arrested after investigators connected her to the crime through vehicle tracking and surveillance footage.
Further investigation revealed that Garcia-Becerril had been in contact with Henriquez and had visited several locations near the scene of the crime before the burglary. They discovered that Henriquez’s vehicle had been spotted at multiple locations the day before the crime, including a Lowe’s store in Coon Rapids and an Enterprise rental office.
On the morning of the break-in, Veloz-Garcia rented a truck, which was later tracked to the victims’ home. After the burglary, the truck was returned, and video footage showed several suspects acting suspiciously.
Police also uncovered significant evidence at the home of Veloz-Garcia, including $2,000 in cash and receipts for items bought after the burglary. Veloz-Garcia admitted to being aware that the truck would be used for the crime and later helped transport the stolen safe.
Recovery of Stolen Funds and Ongoing Investigation
So far, authorities have managed to recover $36,000 of the stolen money. The investigation continues as police work to track down the remaining suspects. Zambrano remains in custody, with bail set at $600,000. As the case unfolds, law enforcement is piecing together further details that may lead to the apprehension of the last suspect still on the run.
