ST. PAUL, MN – Authorities have arrested a 61-year-old woman accused of masterminding a brazen immigration scam, and now her wacky crime is making headlines around the world! The suspect allegedly used wigs and falsified IDs to sneak into multiple test centers and take citizenship exams for at least 14 other people. The scheme, which stretched from June 2022 to August 2023, aimed to help individuals cheat their way into gaining legal status.
Elaborate Wig Disguises and Forged IDs at the Center of the Scheme
According to the United Kingdom Home Office, the suspect strategically disguised herself using various wigs and “doctored” identification documents.
She reportedly targeted citizenship test centers across the country, posing as both male and female applicants to evade suspicion. The accused ensured that these individuals gained an unfair advantage in their efforts to remain in the UK.
Immigration officials revealed that the operation relied on meticulous attention to detail. The fraudulent tests—completed under false identities—provided the applicants with fraudulent results that could potentially lead to permanent residency or citizenship.
Police Raid Uncovers Wigs and False Documents
The scheme unraveled when authorities arrested the woman in north London. During the raid, investigators seized an assortment of wigs, several forged identification documents, and other materials believed to be part of the scam.
Officials described the crime as a serious threat to the country’s immigration system, warning that such activities could allow unqualified or dangerous individuals to stay in the UK unlawfully.
“Such fraudulent activity undermines the integrity of the immigration process. It poses a risk to public safety, as it could result in individuals being wrongly granted the right to remain in the UK,” the Home Office said in a statement.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active as they gather more evidence and evaluate the extent of the damage.
It is not yet clear whether additional suspects may be involved in the operation or if further arrests will be made.
Looks like this granny’s wig game was strong, but not strong enough to fool the law. Next time, she might want to test her luck somewhere else—maybe a costume party.
