BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A serene Monday afternoon in an upscale New Jersey community on the Shore turned deadly after a resident allegedly shot his next-door neighbors before taking his own life during an intense police confrontation.

Seaside Standoff Ends in Tragedy

The incident began around 4:45 p.m. when John Adamo, 54, reportedly fired at his male neighbor who was standing outside on Drake Drive.

Moments later, Adamo allegedly shot at the man’s wife through their home’s window, according to Ocean County authorities.

Two-Hour SWAT Drama

After the initial shootings, Adamo barricaded himself in his waterfront mansion as SWAT teams descended on the property. Despite repeated attempts to negotiate, Adamo remained unresponsive.

The standoff reached its climax when tactical teams breached the front door, only to find Adamo deceased in an upstairs bedroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Bomb Scare Adds to Tension

The discovery of a pressure cooker in the bedroom prompted immediate evacuation of nearby residents.

A New Jersey State Police bomb squad later determined the device posed no explosive threat.

Victims Fighting for Their Lives

Both victims were airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Medical staff listed their conditions as critical but stable.
