GREENVILLE, TN – Two farm animals found themselves in a life-threatening situation early Friday morning in Tennessee. With their heads trapped in a heavy hay feeder and bodies submerged in a freezing creek, their survival depended on a fast and strategic rescue effort.

Emergency Crews Rushed to Save the Animals

At approximately 6 a.m., fire crews from the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department and South Greene Volunteer Fire Department raced to the 2400 block of Viking Mountain Road in Greeneville.

The call came in reporting a bizarre and urgent scenario: a bull and a cow had wandered into a creek while stuck in the metal frame of a hay feeder, unable to free themselves.

Hydraulic Tools and Quick Thinking Made the Difference

When firefighters arrived, they found the animals struggling in the cold water. Without wasting time, rescue crews used hydraulic cutters to carefully disassemble the hay feeder. The bull was the first to be freed and, despite its ordeal, managed to walk away on its own.

The cow, however, faced a more severe situation. She was showing signs of hypothermia and was too weak to stand. Firefighters quickly attached a halter to her and used a rope and winch to pull her from the icy creek.

Both Animals Now Safe

By 7:30 a.m., the rescue mission was complete. The Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department later posted photos of the incident on Facebook, confirming that both animals were safely out of harm’s way and “free and resting.”

Though the animals endured a harrowing ordeal, the fast response and teamwork of local firefighters likely saved their lives.
