MIAMI, FL – Federal agents intercepted a boat carrying 13 Chinese nationals and two suspected smugglers last week as it approached the coast of south Florida. The operation unfolded during the evening hours, exposing a smuggling attempt that involved both adults and a minor.
Pursuit of a Suspicious Vessel
The incident began around 8:40 p.m. on November 15 when agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Air and Marine Operations detected a suspicious vessel traveling without lights. The 25-foot twin-engine cuddy cabin boat was heading toward Florida’s coastline. Agents attempted to stop the vessel, but it failed to comply, leading to a pursuit.
CBP agents successfully halted the boat and secured the situation. Upon boarding, they discovered 13 individuals being transported under unlawful circumstances.
Passengers and Smugglers Detained
Authorities identified the group as nine adult men, three adult women, and one minor child, all of Chinese nationality. Additionally, two individuals believed to be involved in smuggling operations were apprehended. CBP has not disclosed the nationalities of the suspected smugglers.
All 15 individuals were taken into custody following the interception. Officials reported no injuries during the incident.

Growing Concerns Over Maritime Smuggling
The interception highlights ongoing efforts by CBP to prevent illegal maritime entries into Florida. Smuggling attempts often involve unsafe conditions, posing significant risks to those onboard.
