MYSTIC, CT – A dramatic rescue took place Friday morning in Mystic, Connecticut, when a driver was trapped inside their pickup truck after it plunged off a road and down an embankment. The driver, seriously injured, was airlifted to a nearby hospital after first responders worked quickly to extricate them from the wreckage.
Early Morning Crash in Mystic
At approximately 8:23 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, a Toyota pickup truck went over an embankment along Yetter Road in Mystic.
The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, became trapped in the wreckage after losing control of the truck. Police and emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Quick Response Saves the Driver
Emergency teams from multiple agencies responded to the crash. The Old Mystic Fire Department Heavy Rescue, Mystic Fire Department, Mystic River Ambulance, and L&M Paramedics all assisted in extricating the driver.
After being freed from the truck, the driver was airlifted by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital, where they were treated for serious injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
The crash is under investigation by the Groton Police Department with help from the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit. This team includes accident reconstructionists from the Groton, Stonington, Ledyard, and City of Groton Police Departments.
The Groton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is also involved in the ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Groton Police Department at 860-441-6712.
