GLENDALE, AZ – An Arizona man’s attempt to purchase a truck turned into a scene straight out of a high-speed action movie when he chased down two alleged thieves who had just stolen $50,000 in cash from his car. The pursuit ended in a dramatic crash and the arrest of both suspects.

A Planned Heist in Plain Sight

The chaos began when the victim withdrew $50,000 from a Glendale, Arizona, bank on November 7 to buy a truck. According to Glendale Police, two men inside the bank spotted the withdrawal and decided to follow the victim. Identified as 22-year-old Raymond Pouncy and 23-year-old Reginald Chatman, the pair tailed the man to a private residence where the truck seller was preparing to show his vehicle.

As the seller moved another car to make room, the victim left his bag of cash in his own car. Surveillance footage captured the moment one suspect crept up to the unlocked car, grabbed the bag, and dashed back to a getaway vehicle. “Me, like an idiot, I didn’t lock the car,” the victim admitted to an officer in bodycam footage.

The truck seller immediately alerted the victim, saying, “That car took off with something, he stole something out of your car,” the victim recounted.

High-Speed Pursuit Through Glendale

Refusing to let the suspects escape, the victim took matters into his own hands and pursued them at high speeds through Glendale. Glendale Police later described the scene as something “out of the movie The Italian Job.”

Surveillance videos show the vehicles racing through the streets for several miles until the suspects’ car collided with another vehicle in passing traffic. The crash brought the chase to an abrupt halt, scattering cash across the road. Despite the chaos, the suspects attempted to flee on foot.

The victim, with assistance from the individual involved in the crash, managed to detain Pouncy and Chatman until Glendale Police arrived.

Arrests and Safety Reminders from Police

Both suspects were arrested and now face charges of burglary and felony theft, according to Glendale Police. Authorities released video footage on November 15, blending body-worn camera and surveillance footage to illustrate the bizarre chain of events.

In a Facebook post accompanying the footage, Glendale Police warned the public to stay vigilant when handling large amounts of cash. “Please be aware of your surroundings as those around us don’t always have the best of intentions,” the department advised.

While the victim’s determination is notable, authorities stress the importance of avoiding dangerous situations in similar scenarios.
