The rescue, captured on video, showed the vocal animal bleating as firefighters carried her to safety, making for an unusual and noisy ordeal.
Stranded and Slipping on the Ice
The Valley County Sheriff’s Office and McCall Fire and EMS rushed to the scene after reports of a deer struggling on the icy surface of Payette Lake.
When they arrived, the animal was unable to gain footing, leaving her trapped and vulnerable on the dangerously slick surface.
Videos shared by authorities show the deer voicing her displeasure as a rescuer carefully carried her across the ice and back to solid ground.
Noisy Rescue Becomes a Social Media Hit
The sheriff’s office praised the effort, sharing the lighthearted side of the rescue: “We want to give a huge shout out to McCall Fire & EMS for rescuing this little critter, even though she complained the whole time. We ‘deerly’ appreciate them and are so grateful they didn’t get ‘bucked’ off the ice in the process.”
McCall Fire & EMS chimed in, calling the incident their favorite rescue of the week.
“It was a busy week of ice rescues on Payette Lake, but the one today was our favorite,” they added.
Dangerous Ice Conditions Raised Warnings
In the days leading up to the incident, authorities had warned the public that ice on Payette Lake had become dangerously thin in certain areas. Despite this, the ice was stable enough in the section where the deer was stranded, allowing rescuers to safely navigate the surface and bring her to safety.
The incident was another reminder of the challenges and risks posed by icy lakes, but thanks to quick action, this noisy rescue ended on a safe and successful note.
