LAS VEGAS, NV – A tragic crash on December 12 in Nevada ended the life of Officer Colton Pulsipher, an off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officer, when an illegal migrant driving the wrong way on Interstate 15 collided head-on with his vehicle. The driver, Fernando Jimenez-Jimenez, had been deported twice but kept sneaking back into the U.S., evading authorities until the fateful collision that claimed two lives.

The Fatal Crash

It was a typical evening for Officer Pulsipher, who was heading home from his shift when disaster struck. Driving his Ford F-150 in the wrong direction on I-15, Jimenez-Jimenez’s vehicle crashed into Pulsipher’s car. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident shocked the Las Vegas community, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Jimenez’s history with the U.S. immigration system only added to the heartbreak. Despite being deported twice in 2019, he re-entered the country unlawfully. His case took another tragic turn when he applied for admission in 2020 but failed to attend his immigration hearing the following year. The court ordered his deportation, but Jimenez was already back on the streets, seemingly unnoticed by authorities until this fatal crash.

Jimenez’s Troubling History of Illegal Re-entry

Fernando Jimenez-Jimenez, 31, first entered the U.S. in 2019, but was deported back to Mexico both times. In 2020, he attempted to re-enter, seeking admission in Brownsville, Texas. However, he missed his immigration hearing in 2021, which led to a deportation order issued in his absence. Despite this, Jimenez continued to evade detection. He found his way back into the country, leading to the crash that ultimately claimed Officer Pulsipher’s life.

The tragic irony is clear—Jimenez’s actions, both illegal and reckless, contributed directly to the senseless death of a public servant. Authorities later discovered marijuana and alcohol in Jimenez’s vehicle. While a toxicology report is pending, it’s clear that his decision to drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol was a key factor in the crash.
