CHICAGO, IL — In a luxurious Chicago, Illinois high-rise, 36-year-old Caitlin Tracey’s body was found at the bottom of a stairwell in October 2024, having plunged 24 stories to her death. Now her husband, Adam Beckerink, 46, sits in Cook County Jail – not for her death, but on domestic violence charges from another state.
A Marriage Marred by Violence
The couple’s brief six-month marriage masked a troubling history.
Court records from Michigan paint a dark picture of their relationship, with Tracey previously seeking protection from Beckerink. She filed for an order of protection in October 2023, citing four separate incidents of abuse. The request was withdrawn after Beckerink allegedly threatened legal action for defamation.
The Fatal Fall
When police found Tracey’s body, investigators noted it was severely damaged from the impact and missing a foot, according to attorneys representing her family.
Despite the suspicious circumstances, Beckerink faced no charges related to her death.
Michigan Charges Surface
While Chicago authorities investigated Tracey’s death, Michigan officials had their own case building against Beckerink.
Court documents from January 2024 describe police observing cuts on Tracey’s lips and red marks on her body. Beckerink now faces six felony charges and two misdemeanors in Berrien County, Michigan, including domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Current Status
Cook County police arrested Beckerink on Friday on a Michigan fugitive warrant after he failed to appear for an October 29 court date related to aggravated assault charges.
