LAS VEGAS, NV – A hiker’s evening trek in Nevada’s rugged Red Rock Canyon took a sudden turn Sunday night, leading to a breathtaking helicopter rescue. Emergency crews sprang into action, racing against time to save the stranded adventurer from the rocky terrain.

Emergency Response in Action

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue team (LVMPDSAR) received a distress call around 7 p.m. Their AIR1 helicopter unit sped to the Calico 1 trail in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Two hikers had been making their way back when one slipped, injuring their lower leg after losing balance on the uneven path.

On the ground, Clark County Fire Department crews trekked in to reach the injured hiker first. Las Vegas Fire Department personnel also joined the effort, providing critical support in the remote location.

Helicopter Hoist Saves the Day

When AIR1 hovered above, a rescue officer descended to the scene, quickly preparing the hiker for evacuation. Secured in a “hot seat,” the patient was lifted into the air, a tense moment captured on video by LVMPDSAR.

The helicopter then whisked the hiker to a nearby Bureau of Land Management fire station, where an ambulance stood ready to rush them to a hospital for treatment.

Outcome of the Rescue

Details about the hiker’s condition remain limited, but the swift coordination of multiple agencies ensured they received prompt care. The dramatic airlift showcased the skill and readiness of Nevada’s rescue teams, turning a perilous situation into a successful mission.
