CLEARWATER, MN – A quiet afternoon in Clearwater, Minnesota, turned chaotic when two masked figures clad in black stormed into a family’s home. Their chilling goal? To attack the homeowner’s daughter. What followed was a frantic struggle, a neighbor’s daring chase, and a tense standoff that ended in an arrest. Ethan Weckman, a 19-year-old from Oak Park, now faces serious charges tied to this brazen crime.
Homeowner Fights Back Against Intruders
The ordeal began around 12:45 p.m. on February 13. Wright County deputies rushed to the scene after a 911 call reported a home invasion unfolding live.
The homeowner’s daughter dialed for help, her father’s desperate cries echoing as he battled one of the intruders. Moments earlier, the man had been in his living room when he noticed the patio door swing open. Two figures, faces hidden and dressed head-to-toe in black, slipped inside and headed straight for his bedroom.
He confronted them immediately, chasing the pair onto the deck. As they tried to leap over the railing, he grabbed one suspect, pulling him back. The fight spilled back into the house, where the second intruder joined in, attacking the homeowner. In a desperate move, the man seized a 90-degree pick, attempting to fend off his assailants with it.
Neighbor Joins the Pursuit
Across the property line, a neighbor working outdoors heard the commotion. He caught sight of a masked male sprinting between houses, soon joined by two others—all in black. The trio piled into a Pontiac Grand Prix and sped off.
Acting fast, the neighbor jumped into his own vehicle, tailing the suspects and relaying their license plate to police via 911.
Authorities soon instructed him to stop the chase, but his quick thinking gave deputies a crucial lead.
Suspect Tracked to Oak Park
That lead pointed straight to Ethan Weckman. The Pontiac was registered to his address in Oak Park, Benton County.
When law enforcement arrived, Weckman barricaded himself inside, prompting a SWAT team response. After a standoff, he surrendered and was taken into custody. Charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary and aiding and abetting the crime, Weckman’s role in the invasion began to unravel.
A woman who had been with him earlier that day provided key details.
She said Weckman had picked up two friends—known only as Shawn and “Zay”—in Big Lake. The group drove to the Clearwater home, where the pair exited the car.
They returned minutes later, Shawn visibly hurt from the scuffle. Weckman then dropped them off before heading home, where deputies were waiting.
Confession Reveals Dark Intent
Under questioning, Weckman initially dodged the truth. But he eventually admitted to driving Shawn and Zay to the house, fully aware that Shawn planned to assault the homeowner’s daughter.
He confessed to waiting in the car, hearing the chaos erupt inside, and then picking up the pair after their failed attempt. No other suspects have been arrested as of February 27, leaving questions about Shawn and Zay’s whereabouts.
This violent episode in Clearwater has left a family shaken and a community on edge. With Weckman in custody, authorities continue to piece together the full scope of this disturbing plot.
