SALT LAKE CITY, UT – A courtroom in Salt Lake City, Utah buzzed with tension this month as Jennifer Gledhill, a wealthy mother of three, stood before a judge, accused of a chilling crime. Authorities say she fatally shot her husband in their upscale home after a heated confrontation about her infidelity, then went to extraordinary lengths to cover it up. Eight days later, she reported him missing—yet police still haven’t located his remains.
Court Appearance Unveils Grim Case Details
On February 6, Gledhill, 42, entered the Matheson Courthouse wearing a blue jail jumpsuit, her hair pulled back and glasses framing her face.
She pleaded not guilty to murder and chose to skip a preliminary hearing, a decision she confirmed to Judge Adam Mow.
The case, unfolding in Cottonwood Heights, has gripped the state with its dark revelations.
A Marriage Ends in Violence
Investigators claim the killing took place in late September inside the couple’s home.
Gledhill’s husband, Matthew Johnson, a 51-year-old Utah National Guard member, had confronted her about an affair the night before. After a night fueled by alcohol and intimacy, she allegedly admitted to cheating.
The next day, while he slept, authorities say she shot him dead. Johnson’s body hasn’t been found, leaving the investigation in limbo.
Disposal and Deception
Following the alleged murder, Gledhill reportedly moved fast to erase evidence.
She placed Johnson’s body in a rooftop storage container, dragged it downstairs, and loaded it into their minivan, according to a man who says he was her lover.
He told police she drove north, dug a shallow grave, and buried her husband.
Back home, she smashed his phone, parked his truck elsewhere in the neighborhood, and scrubbed her car clean at a car wash—actions caught on surveillance footage and tracked via her phone’s GPS.
Lover’s Confession Sparks Investigation
The case broke open when Gledhill’s unnamed lover contacted police.
He admitted to an affair with her and shared disturbing details she’d confided in him. He noticed bruises covering her body, which she explained came from moving Johnson’s corpse and scrubbing their house.
He handed over messages and recordings, giving investigators a roadmap to her alleged actions.
Evidence Mounts at Crime Scene
Police searched the couple’s home and found clues pointing to a cover-up.
A new mattress sat in the master bedroom, reddish-brown stains marked the bed frame and wall, and bleach discolored the stairs. Hidden near Gledhill’s side of the bed was a Glock 19 box, wrapped in a child’s onesie.
A neighbor spotted Gledhill’s parents helping her clean late into the night on September 24, though her mother insisted they stayed only an hour, and her father couldn’t recall specifics.
A Family Torn Apart
Court records paint a fractured picture of the couple’s life.
Gledhill and Johnson were locked in a bitter divorce and custody fight over their three kids, ages 11, 7, and 5.
She secured a temporary restraining order against him in August, but a judge rejected her bid for a permanent one on September 16, finding no evidence of abuse. Just days later, authorities say, the fatal confrontation erupted.
Multiple Charges Pile Up
Beyond murder, Gledhill faces a slew of charges: five counts of felony obstruction of justice, plus drug possession, witness tampering, and desecration of a human body.
Her next court date is set for today, as police continue their hunt for Johnson’s remains and the full truth of this tangled case.
