MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis preschool teacher is recovering after a devastating hit-and-run incident in her Northeast neighborhood left her with significant injuries. Julia Klatt Singer, 61, known for her work at Grace Neighborhood Nursery School, has inspired an outpouring of community support as she begins her journey toward healing.
Details of the Incident
Singer was struck by an SUV while walking in her Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. as she crossed Central Avenue. The driver, making a left turn, hit Singer while she was on the sidewalk and fled the scene.
Singer was left with multiple fractures and a dislocated shoulder. Minneapolis police are investigating and actively searching for the driver responsible.
A Community Rallies for a Beloved Teacher
Singer is not just a preschool teacher—she’s a cornerstone of the Grace Neighborhood Nursery School community. Her work as an educator, artist, poet, and advocate for kindness has touched countless lives.
Moved by her contributions and the challenges she now faces, a parent from the nursery school created a GoFundMe campaign to assist with her medical expenses and recovery.
“Julia brings light to our community through her teaching, art, poetry, and peaceful presence. She emanates kindness and connection and has even turned this personal setback into an opportunity to share a message focused on compassion and humanity,” wrote campaign organizer Anne Meister.
Meister also acknowledged Singer’s humility, stating, “We recognize that a deep sense of humility makes it uncomfortable for Julia to accept help, but we also know that Julia and her family will appreciate any form of support while she is unable to work and while they take time away from work to care for her.”
The funds will help cover Singer’s medical bills, her time away from work, and any additional expenses her family incurs as they care for her during her recovery.
How to Help and the Road Ahead
As police continue their search for the hit-and-run driver, the community remains focused on supporting Singer through her recovery. Contributions to the GoFundMe campaign are a vital way to show care and gratitude for someone who has given so much to others.
Singer’s resilience, coupled with the overwhelming generosity of her community, is a testament to the power of compassion. In the words of Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
