ST. PAUL, MN – A terrifying morning unfolded in northern Minnesota when a school bus packed with 31 students veered off an icy road and crashed into two trees. The chaotic scene left students injured and sparked a major response from local authorities.
Students Hospitalized After Crash
Around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, the bus was traveling near Northwoods School in the city of Cook when it lost control on the icy roadway, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
Skidding out of control, the bus slammed into two trees before crashing into a light pole, which toppled upon impact.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as two students were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say the slick road conditions were a major factor in the crash.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities remained at the scene late into the morning, piecing together details of the accident.
“School officials have been working with and notifying parents in this matter,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement released at 10:30 a.m.
Local law enforcement and the Minnesota State Patrol have launched a full investigation to determine if any additional factors contributed to the crash.
