BARRON COUNTY, WI – A pair of teenagers from Minnesota have been taken into custody after being caught in a spree of mailbox destruction across western Wisconsin. The two boys, aged 17 and 15, were arrested in Barron County, where they are accused of burning and damaging multiple mailboxes in the area. What began as an afternoon of vandalism soon led to a police pursuit and the discovery of key evidence.

The incident unfolded on the afternoon of Thursday, December 26, with local authorities receiving multiple reports of mailboxes being set on fire and destroyed in the northern part of Barron County. Six separate complaints poured in, with dispatchers detailing the damage across several locations. Law enforcement quickly began to patrol the area in search of the suspects.

At around 4 p.m., a description of the vehicle believed to be involved in the crime led police to a traffic stop near Shell Lake. What followed was the swift arrest of two teenage boys, both from Minnesota, who were linked to the crimes.

The Arrest and Discovery of Evidence

During their investigation, officers discovered several items of evidence inside the suspects’ vehicle, including mail and packages that had been removed from the damaged mailboxes.

The boys were soon identified as a 17-year-old from Webster, Minnesota, and a 15-year-old from Cambridge, Minnesota. Authorities are now coordinating with the U.S. Postal Inspector’s office, which may pursue additional charges related to the theft of mail.

The 17-year-old is facing multiple charges related to arson and is awaiting formal charges. His younger companion, the 15-year-old, has been referred to Barron County Health and Human Services due to his involvement in the incidents.

Ongoing Investigations and Possible Connections

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the matter, including looking into several other similar incidents in Barron County and neighboring areas. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the teens may have been involved in other acts of mailbox vandalism.

As the investigation continues, both the local sheriff’s office and federal authorities are working to determine the full scope of the damage caused by the teens.
