MISSOULA, MT – Authorities in Missoula, Montana, are investigating whether recently discovered skeletal remains are connected to a set of remains found earlier this year. The new discovery, made on Thursday, has sparked an ongoing investigation into potential links between the two cases.

Discovery Outside Missoula

On Thursday morning, at approximately 9:22 a.m., the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible human skeletal remains near Southside Road, just outside Missoula. Deputies and detectives quickly arrived at the scene and secured the area for further investigation. The remains were confirmed to be human, but the sheriff’s office has stated that identification “cannot be made at this time.”

The remains were transported to the Montana State Medical Examiner’s Office in Billings for further analysis and review. While details about the remains are still unclear, investigators are working diligently to uncover more information.

Investigators Seek Expert Assistance

As part of their investigation, the sheriff’s office has reached out to the University of Montana Anthropology Department for assistance. Experts from the department will help with the ongoing investigation to determine the identity of the remains and gather any additional relevant information.

Detectives are also working to determine whether the remains found on Thursday may be connected to another set of human remains discovered earlier this year. On June 29, skeletal remains were found near Deep Creek Road, a rural area near Missoula. At the time, authorities were unable to identify the remains. The sheriff’s office has not ruled out the possibility that the two cases may be related.
