PRINCETON, NJ – A daring bank robbery in New Jersey turned out to be a shocking deception. A woman, disguised in a mask and sunglasses, stormed into a Princeton bank, brandishing what appeared to be a gun. But there was a twist—the weapon was nothing more than a painted water pistol. Despite the fake firearm, she managed to walk away with over $60,000 in cash. Now, months later, federal agents have caught up with her, and she’s facing the possibility of two decades behind bars.

The Heist Unfolds

The robbery took place in July at a TD Bank on Route 206 in Princeton, New Jersey.

Ciara Brascom, 39, entered the building wearing a blue hat, red glasses, and a mask. She approached the teller, pulling what looked like a real gun from her pocket, and handed over a threatening note demanding money.

According to federal prosecutors, Brascom warned the teller that if the bank’s alarm was triggered, she would use the weapon. A second teller then led her to the bank’s vault, where she grabbed $60,500 before fleeing.

How Investigators Caught Her

For weeks, authorities worked to identify the suspect. It wasn’t until September that they were able to track her down. Brascom met with federal agents in Princeton, where she allegedly admitted to committing the crime due to financial struggles.

Court records reveal that Brascom initially searched for a toy gun resembling a real firearm but couldn’t find one. Instead, she bought a pack of water pistols and a can of black spray paint to make the weapon look convincing.

Facing Serious Consequences

Now charged with bank robbery, Brascom could spend up to 20 years in prison if convicted. She’s also looking at a hefty $250,000 fine.

While her weapon was nothing more than a toy, the charges she faces are anything but child’s play.
