MEDFORD, OR – A winter nightmare unfolded in Medford, Oregon, when a man became trapped beneath a collapsed carport after heavy snow caused the structure to give way. The terrifying ordeal ended in a life-saving rescue, but not before a race against time involving emergency crews and specialized rescue equipment.

Neighbor’s Quick Action Saves the Day

The Medford Fire Department reported the incident began when a neighbor heard the man’s desperate cries for help and quickly called 911.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and found the man pinned under the heavy remains of his carport, which had buckled under the crushing weight of accumulated snow.

Airlifted to Safety

Once freed from the wreckage, the man was flown by Mercy Flights Inc. to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“With heavy snowfall in our area, we urge everyone to stay aware of potential hazards. Avoid standing under snow-laden tree limbs, carports, awnings, and other structures that may be at risk of collapse,” the Medford Fire Department warned.

They also praised the neighbor’s quick thinking, saying, “A big thank you to the quick-thinking neighbor who called 911 and to our dedicated crews for their swift response!”

The man’s current condition has not been released, but the swift rescue effort certainly prevented further injury.
