BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A quiet Tuesday evening welfare check turned into a homicide investigation when police encountered James Christopher Frank, 57, at his suburban home. “My wife is dead in the bathtub,” Frank allegedly told officers matter-of-factly, before leading them to a scene that would shock veteran law enforcement officials and leave a peaceful Pennsylvania neighborhood reeling.
A Welfare Check Turns Deadly
A concerned family member made the request for a wellness check Tuesday evening, around 8:30 p.m.
After officers raised a ladder to reach a second-story window, they found Frank inside. Upon their directive, he opened the front door and immediately informed them about his wife’s location.
The Brutal Details
Inside the bathroom, police found the body of Deborah Glaser amid a collection of weapons, including a hammer, knives, razor blades, and box cutters.
According to police reports, Frank allegedly admitted to using a steak knife on his wife’s throat while she was still alive. He reportedly told investigators he then used both a knife and hammer approximately ten times to ensure she had died.
A Quiet Neighborhood Shocked
The incident rattled the suburban community, where Frank and Glaser had lived for several years. Neighbors expressed disbelief at the violence, noting how unprecedented such an incident was in their typically peaceful Bethlehem Township area.
The couple had integrated into the close-knit community over the past few years, making the alleged crime all the more disturbing to nearby residents.
Investigation Continues
District Attorney Stephen Baratta described the scene as particularly disturbing, especially given its domestic nature.
While the exact time of death remains unclear, authorities believe Glaser had been deceased for many hours before police arrived. The investigation was prompted after Frank failed to show up for work on both Monday and Tuesday.
Legal Proceedings
Frank faces one count of felony criminal homicide and is currently being held without bond at Northampton County Prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 25. Frank is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
