SEATTLE, WA – A 17-year-old girl who was rescued after a car driven by her sister rolled into the water last Saturday has died from her injuries, the Seattle Police Department confirmed on Wednesday.

The tragic incident took place on November 16, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m. when authorities responded to reports of a vehicle submerged at the Atlantic City Boat Ramp on Seward Park Avenue South. First responders from both the Seattle Police and Fire Departments arrived on the scene and discovered that the driver, a 20-year-old woman, had made it to shore safely. She told rescuers that her younger sister was still in the water.

Rescue Efforts and Medical Response

The two sisters had been in the car, which was parked at the boat ramp when it “rolled” into the water. According to police, the driver managed to escape through the vehicle’s window and reach safety. The fire department located the submerged car about 30 to 40 feet from the shore.

Rescue crews, including four swimmers, four divers, and two rescue watercraft, launched an extensive search for the missing teen. After around 30 minutes, the rescue swimmers found the teen in the water and brought her to shore. Medics immediately began lifesaving measures before transporting her to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Sadly, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Wednesday that the teen succumbed to her injuries.
