NEW YORK, NY – The NYPD is on a relentless hunt for a suspected arsonist linked to at least four fires set in the early hours of January 10 in New York City. Authorities released surveillance footage showing the suspect—a person shrouded in mystery—dressed entirely in black. From head to toe, the individual wore a black full-face mask, a black puffer jacket, black pants, and sneakers with distinct white soles.
A Trail of Flames Across Manhattan
The fiery spree began around 2:20 a.m. near 254 Broadway, where the suspect torched a parked NYPD vehicle. Flames engulfed the car, leaving it heavily damaged.
Just 15 minutes later, at 2:35 a.m., another fire erupted near 14 Murray Street. This time, another vehicle became the target, fueling fears of escalating destruction.
At approximately 2:55 a.m., the suspect ventured underground to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall subway station. There, they ignited a paper cup and tossed it into a garbage can, sparking chaos as smoke filled the area.
Dangerous Escalation on the Subway
The most harrowing incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. aboard a northbound J train at the Woodhaven Boulevard station.
The suspect set fire to a pile of garbage alarmingly close to a sleeping passenger. Thankfully, the suspect fled on foot before the situation worsened, and no injuries were reported.
Police Appeal for Public Help
The NYPD is urging anyone with information about this mysterious arsonist to step forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted as investigators work to bring this individual to justice.
The city remains on edge, with officials determined to stop this brazen suspect before they strike again.
