BRADENTON, FL – A beach ride in Florida took a frightening turn when seven horses suddenly panicked, throwing their riders and bolting down a busy roadway. The shocking event left two people hospitalized and drivers scrambling as the runaway horses stormed through traffic, police said.
Panic Unleashed: Horses Flee After Getting Spooked
The Bradenton Police Department responded to a chaotic scene around 11 a.m. Saturday, when the horses were seen running eastbound on the Palma Sola Causeway.
Witnesses watched in disbelief as the horses, belonging to Carousel Sea Horses, galloped through traffic after the incident spiraled out of control near the 8400 block of Manatee Avenue West.
Police explained that the chaos began when the guide’s horse was “spooked,” setting off a chain reaction. The other horses, caught in the panic, followed suit.
Riders were thrown or forced to jump off to avoid injury as the animals tore through the area.
Injuries and Emergency Response
Two riders sustained possible neck and arm injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities did not release details on their current condition, but the injuries were severe enough to require immediate medical attention.
Horses Corralled After Escaping
As the horses sprinted off, police quickly implemented traffic control to prevent accidents.
Eventually, officers were able to help corral the animals behind a home on the 7800 block of Manatee Avenue West. Video footage shared by the police department showed several of the horses being led back into the company’s trailer.
No Criminal Investigation
Despite the chaos, officials confirmed there is no criminal investigation. Authorities are treating the incident as an unfortunate accident caused by unpredictable animal behavior.
Carousel Sea Horses has not issued a statement regarding the event. We are happy to report all of the horses appear to be doing well.
