VICTORIA, TX – A small plane crashed in the middle of an intersection in Victoria, Texas, on the afternoon of December 11, injuring four people. The unusual accident caused road closures and disruptions for the local community, as authorities work to investigate the cause.
Crash Details and Location
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and a feeder road leading to Zac Lentz Parkway. The Piper PA-31, a twin-engine aircraft, was attempting an emergency landing after running out of fuel. The plane struck a light pole and two vehicles before coming to a stop.
The incident took place in Victoria, about 150 miles southwest of Houston, and caused significant damage to the vehicles involved. Authorities were on the scene shortly after the crash to assess the situation and provide medical care.
Injuries and Medical Response
The pilot, the sole occupant of the aircraft, was medically evaluated on-site but did not require transport to the hospital. Three individuals on the ground were injured in the crash. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person was later transferred to another hospital for further treatment, as confirmed by Victoria Police Deputy Chief Eline Moya.
During a press conference, Moya said, âWe are glad that it wasnât worse than what it is. This is not something we see every day. But we are glad that people seem to be OK, and they are getting checked out.â
Road Closures and Traffic Impact
As a result of the crash, the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and the feeder road remained closed as of Thursday morning. Local authorities stated that the roads would be restricted for several days while crews work to clear debris and investigate the scene.
The disruption affected traffic routes, including access to Victoria East High School. To accommodate the schoolâs schedule, the campus opened earlier than usual at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, allowing extra time for student drop-offs.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the cause of the crash. The preliminary report indicated that the aircraft had run out of fuel before attempting the emergency landing.
