TIPTON COUNTY, TN – In a case that shattered a small Tennessee community’s trust, a fourth-grade teacher who sexually abused multiple students, including raping a 12-year-old who fathered her child, will spend the next quarter-century behind bars. The shocking revelation of Alissa McCommon’s crimes against her former students has left parents, educators, and the Tipton County community grappling with the betrayal of someone once entrusted with their children’s education.

A Pattern of Predatory Behavior

McCommon, who taught at Charger Academy, methodically targeted her victims by infiltrating their lives through video games, social media connections, and even befriending their mothers. The investigation revealed she had up to 21 potential victims, with charges ultimately involving five students.

Her predatory pattern included calling one 12-year-old victim over 200 times and sending explicit photos via Snapchat. In one disturbing incident, McCommon threatened suicide if the boy ended their relationship, according to reports.

The Investigation Unfolds

The case began unraveling in 2021 when authorities opened an investigation into McCommon’s conduct.

By 2023, a mother reported inappropriate texts sent to her son, leading to McCommon’s suspension without pay on August 24, 2023.

Her arrest followed on September 8, 2023, with a 23-count indictment covering multiple sexual offenses. After initially bonding out, McCommon violated her release conditions by contacting one of her victims and was returned to custody.

Justice Served

On Friday, Circuit Court Judge Blake Neill sentenced McCommon to 25 years in prison without possibility of parole after she pleaded guilty to rape of a child, statutory rape, sexual exploitation of minors, and solicitation of minors. The sentence included a shocking development: DNA evidence confirmed McCommon’s pregnancy was the result of raping one of her young victims.

The victim’s mother delivered a searing statement in court: “The innocent child will be loved and raised without your influence. There’s no amount of time they can give you that will equal what God will give you. You will burn in hell.”

Tipton County District Attorney Mark Davidson emphasized the significance of the case, stating, “These convictions and sentence demonstrate the continuing commitment of law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office to aggressively investigate and prosecute child rape and sexual abuse cases in this District, especially where there are minor child victims.”

Following her eventual release, McCommon must register as a Violent Sex Offender and is prohibited from contacting any of her victims. Her teaching license has been permanently revoked, and a judge has ordered she have no contact with the infant child.
