MIDLAND, TX — A grade-school girl was found walking alone in the dark along a dangerous Texas highway after her father allegedly refused to drive her to school, leading to criminal charges against both parents.

Parents Face Consequences

Ta’Lyjah Monea Conner, 23, and Devonte Tremayne Hall, 27, were taken into custody by Midland police after concerned citizens spotted their daughter making her way down Rankin Highway in pre-dawn darkness.

Officers located the child on the 1600 block of the highway and quickly brought her to safety.

A Child’s Dangerous Journey

When police found her, the young girl revealed she had embarked on the trek because her father wouldn’t provide transportation to school. She admitted to officers this was her first attempt at walking to school alone.

The child had already been walking for approximately 45 minutes when found, and calculations showed she still faced another 90-minute journey to reach Pease Magnet Elementary School.

Most alarmingly, she told cops she had almost been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

Police Response and Safety

Officers immediately brought the girl into their patrol car, providing warmth and snacks while investigating the situation.

The child expressed uncertainty about her route to school, heightening concerns about her safety.

Legal Action

Following interviews with both parents, Conner and Hall were arrested on charges of abandoning or endangering a child with imminent danger.

While they have since posted bail from Midland County Detention Center, their court proceedings remain pending. As with all criminal cases, both parents are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
