GALVESTON, TX — A Texas man, Christopher Lee Maldonado, has been found guilty of tampering with evidence after hiding the body of Angela Mitchell, a 24-year-old mother of four, in the trunk of her car. The verdict came on March 3, following a trial that revealed disturbing details about Mitchell’s disappearance and the subsequent efforts to cover it up.

A Mother Goes Missing

Angela Mitchell was reported missing by her mother on May 6, 2022, after she failed to pick up her baby as planned. Concerned loved ones turned to the Find My Friends app to track her phone, which last pinged at Maldonado’s address.

Mitchell, a sex worker, had been at Maldonado’s home on May 5, 2022, as his most recent client. She was never heard from again after that night.

Days later, on May 11, 2022, Mitchell’s car was located. Surrounded by flies and emitting a strong smell of decomposition, the vehicle held a grim secret: Mitchell’s decomposing body was found in the trunk.

Due to the advanced state of decay, authorities were unable to determine her cause of death.

The Cover-Up Unravels

Evidence presented during the trial in February 2025, drawn from both Mitchell’s and Maldonado’s cell phones, painted a clear picture of the events that followed her death.

On the night of May 5, 2022, Maldonado texted an acquaintance, Mike Medina, offering him $200 to move Mitchell’s car. Medina, who later testified that he was unaware of the body in the trunk, enlisted a couple of teenagers to handle the task.

One of the teenagers then recruited a friend, promising quick cash for the job. It was this friend who opened the trunk and found Mitchell’s corpse, bringing the concealment to light.

Despite the evidence, Maldonado was not charged in connection to Mitchell’s death, only for tampering with evidence by concealing her body.

Sentencing and Outcome

Maldonado, now 49 years old, was sentenced to 120 days in jail followed by 10 years of probation for the felony conviction. The jury’s decision, marked the end of a case that began nearly three years earlier with the disappearance of a young mother.

While the cause of Angela Mitchell’s death remains unknown, Maldonado’s actions to hide her body have now been addressed by the court, bringing some measure of closure to a tragic series of events.
