HIDALGO, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a significant seizure at the Hidalgo International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas. A commercial passenger bus entering from Mexico was found to be carrying 208 pounds of cocaine and more than $22,000 in cash, marking a substantial effort to curb illegal activity at the border.
Inspection Uncovers Hidden Narcotics
The incident began two days earlier, when CBP officers singled out the bus for a routine check. Using advanced nonintrusive inspection equipment and specially trained canines, they conducted an examination that quickly escalated into a physical search. Inside the vehicle, officers located 80 packages of what is believed to be cocaine, carefully concealed within the bus.
The total weight of the narcotics came to 208.16 pounds, with an estimated street value of $2,700,300. In addition, $22,051 in currency was confiscated from the bus driver and passengers, identified as suspected proceeds of criminal activity.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Following the discovery, CBP officers took possession of both the bus and the narcotics. The driver and six passengers were arrested by agents from Homeland Security Investigations, triggering the launch of a criminal investigation.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, who oversees the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, emphasized the ongoing efforts of CBP personnel to stop large quantities of drugs from crossing into the United States, reinforcing their commitment to border security.
A Moment for Reflection

We pause to honor those impacted by the destructive reach of narcotics trafficking, recognizing the unseen struggles of individuals and families torn apart by this trade. The Hidalgo community stands resilient, its strength evident in the tireless work of CBP officers who safeguard our borders against such threats. Let us hold onto hope, trusting that through collective vigilance and determination, a safer tomorrow is within reach for all. – Jack & Kitty Norton, Founders and Editors
