TOMBALL, TX — A Texas woman turned a breakup into a scandalous spectacle at a Tomball bar, leading to her arrest on felony charges. Authorities say 18-year-old Taylor Jewell Richard took revenge on her ex-boyfriend in the most humiliating way possible—by playing their private sex tape for an audience.
On March 3, Richard allegedly showed the intimate video—which had been recorded on Valentine’s Day in the back of her ex’s truck—to his friends and even his customers at District 249 Bar & Grill, a popular hangout just northwest of Houston.
Her ex, Michael Bassett, a businessman running a diesel maintenance company, says the public airing of his private moment was more than just embarrassing—it hit his wallet hard.
Ex’s Business Takes a Hit
One of Bassett’s friends, who was at the bar that night, quickly sent him a Snapchat message warning him about what was happening. The messages between them were filled with joking and name-calling—Bassett was even referred to as “Mickle Pickle.”
But while the teasing was lighthearted at first, things took a serious turn when Bassett realized that some of his business customers had seen the video—and were not amused. The fallout was immediate. Offended clients stopped doing business with him, costing him money.
Bassett admitted he knew the video existed but insisted he had recorded it only at Richard’s urging and never expected it to be shared. He even asked Richard to delete it after they broke up, but it was too late.
Felony Charges and a Plea for Mercy
Richard was arrested Monday night and officially charged on Wednesday with Unlawful Disclosure of Intimate Visual Material, a felony that could land her behind bars for up to two years.
Prosecutors made it clear that Richard knew the video was meant to remain private, yet still broadcasted it publicly—causing Bassett both public ridicule and financial loss.
Despite the legal trouble, Richard wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Before being released from jail, she called Bassett, begging him to drop the charges.
But he refused.
A Warning to Young Men
Now, Bassett is speaking out—warning other men to be careful about recording intimate moments.
With Richard out on recognizance and barred from contacting him, Bassett is left dealing with the fallout of a breakup that went viral in the worst way possible.
The case is ongoing, and if convicted, Richard could face serious time behind bars—all over a moment that was supposed to remain private.
A Moment for Reflection

The impact of this incident extends beyond those directly involved, affecting reputations, livelihoods, and personal trust. The community, whether friends, customers, or bystanders, has witnessed the consequences of a private moment becoming public.
