HOUSTON, TX – A Houston, Texas woman is behind bars after allegedly shooting her boyfriend multiple times in a jealous fury. Authorities say she discovered messages from another woman on his phone, sparking a deadly confrontation that left him lying lifeless in the street.
Brutal Shooting Unfolds in the Dead of Night
Harris County deputies arrested 23-year-old Tatyana Evans on Tuesday, charging her with murder in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Geovanni Montague.
Investigators say the violent encounter took place in the early hours of February 9 on Barely Lane, near Jones Road.
Deputies responding to a 911 call found Montague unresponsive in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officials believe the killing was fueled by jealousy, with Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez describing the couple’s relationship as “volatile.”
History of Violence and Threats
Montague lived with his mother in the Oak Grove apartment complex, close to where his body was discovered.
According to court records, Montague’s mother told investigators that her son’s relationship with Evans had been abusive. She alleged that Evans had previously injured Montague and that he had even filed a police report against her in December 2024 over threats she made.
Despite this, no charges had been filed at the time.
Surveillance Footage and Key Evidence
Investigators pieced together evidence from surveillance cameras, which allegedly captured a vehicle matching Evans’ car speeding away from the scene with its headlights off around the time of the murder.
Detectives later learned that Montague and Evans had spent hours together at his apartment earlier that evening before Evans left for her mother’s home.
At some point, Montague realized he had accidentally left his phone in Evans’ car and called her to retrieve it.
That call would be his last.
Discovery of Texts Leads to Deadly Confrontation
Authorities say Evans found Montague’s phone in her car and, while looking through it, discovered messages from another woman. Enraged, she allegedly grabbed a .45-caliber pistol and returned to confront him.
According to police, Evans claimed that Montague “grabbed her by her jacket” during the argument, prompting her to fire multiple rounds—hitting him five to six times—before fleeing the scene and heading back home.
Suspect’s Military Background
Evans, a decorated U.S. Army veteran, had previously served in Afghanistan.
Now, instead of honor, she faces a murder charge that could put her behind bars for life.
