BATAVIA, NY – Three young siblings, home alone in the dead of night, were pulled from a burning apartment in western New York after a dramatic early-morning rescue on Thursday. Flames and smoke overwhelmed the scene as emergency crews battled to save the children, ages 4, 10, and 12, from what could have been a deadly disaster.
Fire Breaks Out With Children Trapped Inside
At around 12:45 a.m., chaos erupted on Vine Street in Batavia, roughly 50 miles east of Niagara Falls.
The downstairs tenant, awakened by the smell of smoke, called 911 to report flames consuming the second-floor apartment, where the children were trapped. As police and firefighters raced to the scene, time was running out.
When officers arrived, they saw flames shooting out of a second-story window.
Desperate to reach the trapped children, officers climbed to the second floor, but thick smoke and intense heat forced them back. The situation turned even more critical as firefighters arrived to assist.
Dramatic Rescue and Emergency Response
The City of Batavia Fire Department, along with neighboring departments from the Town of Batavia and LeRoy, made a coordinated effort to breach the burning apartment. City firefighters pushed through the smoke, finding and rescuing all three children.
They were carried to safety and rushed to United Memorial Medical Center before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Police have not released information on the children’s conditions.
Minor Injuries for First Responders
Two City of Batavia police officers and one firefighter sustained minor injuries during the rescue effort. Despite the dangers, they received treatment and returned to work shortly afterward.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
Investigators are now working to determine what sparked the fire.
Police confirmed that the children were the only occupants inside the apartment when the blaze broke out.

You missed the fact that one of the children died, and 2 are in critical condition. Pretty crappy reporting since you published this today and this happened a couple days ago
