DETROIT, MI – A devastating fire tore through a suburban Detroit, Michigan home Sunday night, leaving three children dead and raising alarm about a crucial safety failure—no working smoke detectors were found inside the residence. Despite desperate rescue efforts, the young victims could not be saved.

Authorities say the blaze broke out at a two-story house on Pembury Lane in West Bloomfield around 8 p.m. Firefighters rushed to the scene after a frantic 911 call from one of the trapped children inside. The child reportedly told dispatchers they were unable to escape the flames.

Firefighters’ Race Against Time

Fire crews forced their way into the burning home, where they found two children on the first floor amidst the flames. The third child was discovered upstairs, trapped in heavy smoke that filled the second floor.

Officials said the victims, a 16-year-old girl and two boys, ages 15 and 12, were rushed to nearby hospitals but later succumbed to their injuries.

No Smoke Alarms Found

Fire Marshal Byron Turnquist confirmed the critical safety failure, stating there were no functioning smoke alarms in the home. The absence of these devices, which are designed to give early warning during fires, is believed to have worsened the tragic outcome.

The fire department issued a plea to the public: “Please take a few moments and test your smoke alarms. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your home and in each bedroom. It is also a good idea to plan your escape. Make sure that everyone knows two ways out.”
