TREMONTON, UT — A respected Utah judge’s career came crashing down this week after investigators uncovered what they say was a sinister connection to an accused child predator he had previously released on bail.
The Shocking Arrest
Judge Kevin Christensen, 64, found himself on the other side of the law Monday when authorities charged him with seven felony crimes involving children, plus obstruction of justice.
The charges came just one day before former Tremonton Fire Chief Ned Brady Hansen, 54, faced eight counts of aggravated exploitation of a minor.
A Dark Connection
The investigation began innocently enough with a tip about suspicious activity on the chat app Kik in November 2024. But what started as an alert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children soon spiraled into something far more disturbing.
According to court documents, investigators say they found an “extensive number of chats” between the judge and the former fire chief that contained explicit content about harming children.
The Bail Decision That Raised Red Flags
When Hansen was first arrested in January, law enforcement specifically requested he be held without bail. Judge Christensen granted him release — but investigators now say he failed to disclose his personal relationship with the suspect.
FBI agents report finding evidence that the two men had been engaging in explicit conversations through the messaging app.
The Evidence Mounts
Court records paint a troubling picture of the allegations.
Hansen allegedly admitted to investigators that he struggled with “a pornography addiction” and made statements about potentially harming children.
Meanwhile, Christensen is accused of sending explicit photos and engaging in graphic chats with users he believed were teenage girls.
The Aftermath
The scandal has rocked this quiet Utah community. Hansen was terminated from his position as fire chief following his January arrest, while Christensen has been placed on unpaid leave from the bench.
Both men are currently being held without bail as the investigation continues. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
