PROVO, UT – A 53-year-old man, Arthurio Aurelio Carrion, is in custody after police found a dead body in a shed behind an apartment complex near 700 West and Heather Lane in Provo, Utah. The Provo Police Department responded to a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. reporting the body. When officers arrived, they encountered Carrion in the front yard of the complex, which has two locked sheds in the back.
When asked what was inside one of the sheds, Carrion reportedly said there was a dead body. Upon opening the shed, police noted a clear smell of decomposition. Inside, they found the body of a woman identified as Lesa Hyde, Carrion’s former girlfriend. According to the Springville Police Department, Hyde had been missing since December.
Investigation Unfolds at Apartment Complex
Janna-Lee Holland from the Provo Police Department explained that authorities had no prior reason to visit the location until the 911 call came in the day before the body was found.
A witness reported that Carrion had contacted him the previous day, admitting he had done something wrong while gesturing toward the shed. Witnesses also recalled Carrion saying he had “pulled a Rick,” a reference police believe points to a family member previously convicted of murdering his girlfriend.
As officers arrested him, Carrion expressed regret, saying he shouldn’t have told “that snitch.”
He later pointed blame at a police officer who had arrested him in the past for domestic violence.
Jacob Workman, a frequent visitor to the area, expressed disbelief at the arrest. He noted that Carrion seemed normal earlier that day, with no signs of anything unusual until the body was reported about an hour later.
Charges Filed and Suspect Detained
Carrion is now being held in the Utah County Jail, facing a first-degree felony murder charge. Court records indicate he has been ordered to remain in custody without bail, awaiting a pretrial hearing.
The case has left the community stunned as authorities continue their investigation into Hyde’s death.
A Moment for Reflection

We pause to honor Lesa Hyde, whose life was tragically cut short, and extend our deepest sympathies to her loved ones grappling with this profound loss. The Provo community, shaken by these events, stands together in shared sorrow, demonstrating resilience in the face of such a jarring incident. May those reading this find strength in the pursuit of justice and the enduring hope that light can emerge even from the darkest moments. – Jack and Kitty Norton, Founders and Editors
