ST. PAUL, MN – A former contestant on “Wheel of Fortune” got more than she bargained for when she returned to the set for what she thought was a special anniversary celebration. Instead, she was left stunned as her boyfriend appeared on stage and proposed in front of a live audience, turning a simple puzzle into an unforgettable moment.

Proposal Planned with Help from the Show

The heartwarming proposal aired on Friday as part of “Wheel of Fortune’s” 50th-anniversary festivities. The show first teased the moment on Instagram, writing, “Screaming, crying, losing our minds over this sweet Wheel proposal.” A longer version of the proposal was later shared on YouTube.

Host Ryan Seacrest introduced the clip, saying, “We’re celebrating milestones in honor of our 50th anniversary and actually had one happen earlier in the week right here on the set.”

Vanna White added, “Robin, the boyfriend of former contestant Rhea, reached out for our help in asking her a big question.” White explained that announcer Jim Thornton helped set up the surprise, tricking Rhea into thinking she was back for a 50th-anniversary puzzle celebration.

Puzzle Turns into a Proposal

In the emotional clip, Rhea solves a puzzle that reads, “Will You Marry Me?” As Jim Thornton announces, “Nicely done,” Robin enters through a set of double doors. Rhea’s stunned reaction quickly turns to joy as Robin gets down on one knee.

“Rhea Susan Mathew, will you marry me?” Robin asked, presenting her with a ring box. Overwhelmed, Rhea nodded yes, and the couple embraced as the audience cheered.

Behind-the-Scenes and Reactions

Before the taping, Maggie Sajak, daughter of former host Pat Sajak and the show’s social correspondent, shared a behind-the-scenes interview with Rhea. In the clip, Rhea said, “I actually brought someone very special with me today. I brought my boyfriend Robin, he’s one of my biggest supporters, so I’m really excited to share this magic with him.”
