ALTOONA, WI – A horrifying crime that began in a quiet Wisconsin home ended with a severed head tossed into a river—and now, one of the people involved has learned her fate. A 57-year-old woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after authorities uncovered the dismembered body of her elderly roommate, his remains wrapped in a plastic tarp alongside financial documents tying her to his annuity account.

Shocking Details of a Brutal Killing

Tracey Clark, 57, stood before the court on Tuesday as she was sentenced for her role in the death of 79-year-old Dennis Schattie.

Clark, who pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless homicide, was accused of being part of a nightmarish scheme that left Schattie violently murdered and dismembered.

Her boyfriend, Brandon Gaston, 48, is accused of carrying out the gruesome act and is set to stand trial in March.

Prosecutors revealed chilling details of the crime.

Gaston allegedly retrieved a knife from inside the home before beginning the grisly task of cutting off Schattie’s head and fingers.

Investigators noted that Schattie had been a generous and caring man who had trusted Clark. Instead, she played a role in a crime that left him dead in his own home—the very place where he should have been safe.

Body Discovered Miles Away

The shocking discovery came on April 12, 2022, when Schattie’s remains were found in Rockford, Illinois—approximately 250 miles from the home he shared with Clark and Gaston in Altoona, Wisconsin.

His body, which had been dismembered and burned, was wrapped in a tarp near the rocks of a dam along the Rock River.

Investigators also uncovered his dentures, which bore his name, further confirming his identity.

Authorities quickly traced the crime back to the home in Altoona, where Clark ultimately admitted to her involvement.

She told investigators that Gaston had struck Schattie over the head with a hammer before subjecting her to an assault. Under duress, she was forced to help move the body to the garage, where the horrifying dismemberment took place.

Clark also confessed to personally throwing Schattie’s severed head into the Rock River.

Justice Served, But One Suspect Awaits Trial

While Clark has now been sentenced, the case is far from over.

Gaston still faces trial, where he will answer for his alleged role in the vicious killing.

Meanwhile, Schattie’s brutal death and the disturbing details surrounding it continue to send shockwaves through the usually peaceful Wisconsin community, leaving many to wonder how such a monstrous crime could unfold in an otherwise quiet home.
