Wabasha, Minnesota – It’s no secret we love Wabasha, Minnesota, so we were very excited to learn that a delightful new art hub has opened its doors, inviting artists of all ages and skill levels to come together and create. The scent of fresh clay and the soft hum of spinning pottery wheels fill the air as you step inside. Iron Bridge Art and Clay, the brainchild of local artist Vienne Cordet Schuth, is a warm and welcoming space where this southern Minnesota community can explore various art mediums, with a focus on ceramics.
Bringing Artists Together
For years, Cordet Schuth worked from her private studio on her family’s organic farm, creating unique pieces for her Etsy shop. As her children grew, she found herself searching for ceramic classes they could enjoy together. It was then that she realized Wabasha lacked a central gathering place for the town’s many talented artists.
With Iron Bridge Art and Clay, Cordet Schuth aims to bridge that gap, providing a space where artists can connect, learn, and inspire one another. The studio’s mission is clear: to offer a safe, inclusive, and fun environment that encourages self-expression and the sharing of ideas.
What’s in a Name?
When it came to naming her new venture, Cordet Schuth knew she wanted something that captured the essence of Wabasha. The answer was right in front of her – the iconic bridge that spans the Mississippi River and serves as a symbol of the town’s rich history and charm. And so, Iron Bridge Art and Clay was born, a nod to both the town’s landmark and the strength and resilience of its artistic community.
A Creative Renaissance in Wabasha
Cordet Schuth sees Iron Bridge Art and Clay as part of a larger renaissance happening in Wabasha. With new businesses like the spice company and the National Eagle Center drawing visitors from far and wide, she believes the town is on the cusp of an exciting new chapter. We’re seeing this in our hometown of Winona – which is just down stream from Wabasha.
Looking to the future, Cordet Schuth plans to expand the studio’s offerings beyond ceramics, with classes in painting and printmaking on the horizon. Her goal is to create a vibrant, diverse art scene that will continue to grow and thrive for years to come.
