LOS ANGELES, CA – Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Tuesday, after months of separation and speculation.
TMZ was the first to report the news that Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, listing their official date of separation as April 26, 2024.
The pair married in July 2022 after rekindling a romance that began nearly 20 years earlier. The date of the filing, Aug. 20, fell on the second anniversary of the Georgia wedding ceremony they held following their nuptials in Las Vegas.
Lopez and Affleck were engaged to be married in September 2003, but postponed the wedding before finally breaking up. Affleck went on to have three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner and Lopez went on to welcome twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
After reuniting, Lopez drew inspiration from their relationship — and old love letters from Affleck that she had kept through the years — to produce her most recent album, “This Is Me… Now” in February. It was accompanied by both a musical film titled “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story” and a behind-the-scenes documentary called “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” a line borrowed from one of Affleck’s letters.
On May 31, Lopez announced she was canceling her planned tour in support of the album, as rumors swirled that the pair had been living separately.
“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down,” Lopez said in a statement at the time.
“Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again.”
Since then, the pair spent most of the summer on opposite coasts, with Lopez in New York and Affleck in Los Angeles.
