FLINT, MI – In a shocking incident in Flint, Michigan, a newlywed couple faces criminal charges after their groomsman was struck and killed by an SUV shortly after their wedding.
Authorities reported that the incident followed a heated argument between the groom, 22-year-old James Shirah, and the victim, 29-year-old Terry Taylor Jr., who had served as a groomsman earlier in the day.
On August 30, around 8 p.m., Flint police responded to a call regarding a pedestrian crash on East Hamilton Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Taylor severely injured. He was quickly transported to Hurley Medical Center, where he tragically died from his injuries.
Speeding SUV and Criminal Charges
Investigators uncovered details suggesting that the argument escalated, leading Shirah to allegedly strike Taylor with his SUV at a dangerously high speed.
The crash was not an accident, according to the police. Shirah was promptly arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
His bride, 21-year-old Savahna Collier, was also charged, though her role was different. She faces charges of being an accessory after the fact to a felony. Shirah is being held without bond, while Collier’s bond was set at $4,000, according to police.
This tragedy has left many in shock, as a day meant to celebrate love turned into a deadly confrontation that claimed a life. The investigation remains ongoing.
