MADISON, WI – What would you do if you pulled into your driveway after a long day at work, only to find your dark house mysteriously illuminated? As you approach, the unmistakable aroma of garlic and sautéing shrimp wafts through the air. Your heart races as you notice an unfamiliar silhouette moving behind the curtains. This surreal scenario became a startling reality for one Madison, Wisconsin resident on a Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of a woman for residential burglary after she allegedly entered a stranger’s home and prepared herself a gourmet meal.

Unexpected Intruder Discovered

The event took place on Tuesday evening in a residence on South Livingston Street. The homeowner, returning after an extended absence, was alarmed to find her house illuminated and occupied. Promptly contacting local law enforcement, she awaited their arrival outside her property.

Responding officers observed through the windows a woman moving about the house with apparent ease. Upon making contact, the intruder, later identified as Joanna K. Lee, calmly asserted she had the homeowner’s consent to be there.

Lee provided a detailed account of a supposed earlier meeting with the resident at a local café, claiming she had been given keys to the property.

Gourmet Burglar’s Elaborate Ruse

However, the homeowner firmly denied any prior acquaintance with Lee or granting her access to the residence.

Police discovered that Lee had apparently spent considerable time in the house, even preparing an elaborate shrimp and pasta dinner for herself using the homeowner’s ingredients.

Investigators believe Lee gathered personal information about the resident by examining mail and other items within the home to construct her fabricated story.

Following the incident, Lee was taken into custody and charged with residential burglary. She is currently being held at the Dane County Jail as the legal process unfolds.

Wisconsin cops say this unusual case serves as a reminder for homeowners to remain vigilant about home security, even in seemingly safe neighborhoods.
