ST. PAUL, MN – As the United States gears up for the Independence Day holiday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is bracing for an unprecedented surge in air travel.

With a staggering 2.99 million passengers screened on Sunday alone, the agency is expecting to handle over 32 million travelers between June 27 and July 8. How will this affect Minnesota travelers this year?

Economic Recovery Fuels Travel Boom

TSA Administrator David Pekoske attributes the travel boom to a thriving economy, stating in a press release, “The traveling public is on the move, which is a sign of a healthy economy.”

Pekoske emphasizes that the agency has ramped up recruiting efforts and significantly reduced attrition rates to ensure adequate staffing during this critical time.

Travelers Urged to Plan Ahead

With seven of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSA history occurring in the past month, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport well in advance of their flights.

Most airlines recommend arriving two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight to allow ample time for security screening.
