KANSAS CITY, MO – Authorities are digging deeper into the shocking death of Telemundo Super Bowl reporter Adam Manzano of Kansas City, Missouri. Investigators are now probing whether he was drugged before his body was discovered in a New Orleans, Louisiana hotel room. In a disturbing twist, another alleged victim of the same suspect has stepped forward, claiming she left him for dead in a near-identical scheme years ago.
Police Investigate Possible Drugging in Manzano’s Death
Manzano, 27, who worked for Telemundo Kansas City, had traveled to New Orleans to cover the big game.
Surveillance footage captured him being lured into a hotel room by Danette Colbert, a 48-year-old woman known as the “Bourbon Street Hustler.” Days later, authorities found Manzano’s phone and credit card inside Colbert’s home.
Kenner police suspect Colbert has a history of drugging and robbing unsuspecting men. They are now awaiting toxicology results to determine if Manzano was another one of her alleged victims.
Even more chilling? In the wake of her arrest for robbery, several others have come forward with eerily similar stories.
Another Alleged Victim Breaks His Silence
David Butler, 52, is among those now speaking out. In November 2021, Butler encountered Colbert at a French Quarter bar, where she and another woman allegedly offered him a drink. Moments after consuming it, he felt disoriented and struggled to get home.
Butler recalled being guided into a black Suburban—his last memory of that night.
The next morning, a property manager found him unconscious on the floor. His phone and wallet were missing, and his credit cards had been used to rack up thousands of dollars in purchases. Even more devastating, over $80,000 from his cryptocurrency retirement account had vanished.
A History of Escaping Justice
Butler kept track of Colbert over the years, convinced she would continue preying on others. His fears were justified when she faced similar charges in 2022.
Nevada court records revealed she had been charged with grand larceny and administering drugs to aid in felony crimes. However, those cases were dismissed when victims refused to testify.
Colbert did face consequences last October, when she was convicted of computer fraud, theft, and illegal transmission of monetary funds. But instead of prison time, Orleans Criminal District Judge Nandi Campbell sentenced her to probation and ordered her to pay restitution.
Victims Blame the System
Butler condemned the lenient sentencing, arguing that Manzano’s tragic fate could have been avoided if stricter actions had been taken against Colbert.
He had even written to Judge Campbell in December, warning that her failure to impose real consequences could lead to further loss of life.
Now, Colbert remains in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center as police continue their investigation. Meanwhile, the families of her alleged victims are left demanding justice, wondering if Manzano’s death could have been prevented.
