Brillion, Wisconsin – Meet Kaylee Lamers, a 16-year-old from rural Wisconsin, who’s turning her sewing hobby into a booming business. She started at 11, making toys for her cats, and now she’s the proud owner of “Stitches and Sweets.”

Kaylee’s creations range from tote bags and pillows to memory bears made from the clothing of loved ones who have passed away.

Her friends might tease her for being an “old lady” with her sewing, but Kaylee’s laughing all the way to the bank. From a $900 profit in 2022, she skyrocketed to over $6,400 last year.

She’s even selling chocolate chip cookies at farmers’ markets to cover fees and maintain her profit margin on sewn items. Kaylee’s products are now in three stores, and her weekends are packed with market appearances.

Balancing high school, sports, and her business is tough, but she’s determined to keep up with demand. Her success isn’t from a family tradition; it’s all her own hard work and passion.

Now, Kaylee’s stitched her way to becoming a finalist in the Junior Achievement Young Entrepreneur Live competition. She’s hoping her unique creations will help her sew up the win and the $10,000 prize.
